What Colorado’s First Gentleman Told an Elk Outfitter at the Capitol

Jenny Burbey guides elk hunters in Colorado. She and her husband have been outfitting for 37 years, a life she calls a fantastic way of life, and one that raised kids who grew up in the woods knowing where their food comes from. She joined Salida Gunshop remotely to talk about a conversation at the Colorado Capitol that she has not forgotten.
As Jenny tells it, Colorado’s First Gentleman, Marlon Reis, said this to her:
“I’m going to do everything in my power to stop what you do.”

If you only have a minute, watch Jenny’s story from 6:44 to 7:39 VIDEO 6:44. Jenny describes the moment in her own words, and it explains why so many outfitters, guides, and hunting families are paying close attention to this ballot.
Why it matters to Colorado families
Outfitting is how many rural Colorado families make a living. When someone close to the governor tells a working outfitter he wants to stop what she does, families in hunting towns hear a message about their future, their jobs, and their access to the land they have cared for over generations.
Amendment 83 would protect the right to hunt and fish in the Colorado Constitution. It gives local families and community voices firmer footing, so the future of hunting is not decided by whoever has the most outside money behind them. Learn the basics in our Amendment 83 explainer.
